Anders Johansson was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, on May 25th 1962. At the age of eight Anders began to learn the piano but decided to switch to the drums at the age of 14.
Anders went on to electronics engineering school in 1979 before serving a mandatory year in the Swedish Navy in 1982-83.
In 1984 he moved to the United States to join Yngwie Malmsteen's band. After completing five albums and world tours with Yngwie, Anders moved on to work as a studio and touring musician. He has recorded and been on tour with an array of bands, and has also recorded albums both under his own name and together with his brother Jens, with whom he manages the record label Heptagon Records.
Originally joining HammerFall as a session player for their “Legacy” tour in 1999, Anders is now a full time member of the band and has featured on four of the bands six albums.
Anders Johansson is well regarded as one of the top European metal drummers and has been praised for his technical ability in metal and other styles of playing.
