Artist Info - Jim Duguid

Name: Jim Duguid
Band(s): Independent
Country: United Kingdom
Website: www.paolonutini.com

Jim Duguid was born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland.  At the age of 15 he began taking keyboard lessons but his love for drumming soon became apparent after his younger brother acquired a red Premier Royale drumset.  Jim fell in love with kit and would sneak home from school on his lunch break to thrash out old Beatles and AC/DC songs while the house was empty.

After a couple of years of teaching himself, Jim went for a few lessons with a local drum teacher at his high school before heading off to study music at Strathclyde University.  Whilst at University Jim performed with a number of bands and also learnt a wealth of information about music technology which has become his other musical interest.

Jim began teaching drum lessons in high schools around the Glasgow area whilst performing in various bands on the local scene.  He also played at weddings and functions to earn vital extra cash.

Jim’s first major gig was with the band “Speedway” featuring singer Jill Jackson.  Jim and Jill worked together writing material before putting the band together and securing a deal with Virgin.  Speedway went on to release several top 20 hits including one top 10 entry and supported Bryan Adams on tour.

For the past 5 years Jim has been working with young singing prodigy, Paolo Nutini.  Paolo would regularly visit Jim at his Studio in Glasgow to write songs and ‘jam’.  It all started as more of an experiment as Paolo was only 15 at the time.  After a couple of years Jim moved to London to focus his efforts on working with Paolo, whilst doing some session work for American artist, Juliet Richardson between London and New York.

In 2005 Paolo Nutini signed to Atlantic Records and his debut album was released in July 2006.  Jim performed all drumming duties on the album and also co-wrote a number of the songs with Paolo.  Jim has been touring extensively around Europe with Paolo and the rest of the band before heading over to the USA and then back to Europe for all the major UK and European Festivals.
